Food Staples for Easy Cooking

Making the time to cook can be more of a hassle than not. Ordering out or picking up a quick bite can be the easier alternative… but not always the best. Some downfalls include spending more money, not getting quality ingredients, or overeating. So what to do?

I’ve come to realize that having a few key ingredients in the kitchen at all times is a life-saver. So I thought I would share some of my kitchen staples with you - maybe it will give you a little inspiration or you could pass it on to a friend that may need some quick ideas in the kitchen.

My Kitchen Staples:

  • Bell Peppers (red, yellow, green)
  • Sweet Onion
  • Mushrooms
  • Salad Mix like Arugula, Spring Mix or Baby Spinach
  • Carrots
  • Eggs
  • Red Potatoes
  • Olive Oil
  • Garlic Salt
  • Cholula Hot Sauce

Sample Meal Ideas:


  • Fried eggs with sauteed potatoes and peppers - garlic salt for seasoning
  • Scrambled eggs with mushrooms, peppers, onions and hot sauce
  • Fried eggs and a side of arugula mixed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
  • Scrambled eggs with potatoes and onions - hot sauce optional
  • Omelet with veggies

Lunch & Dinner:

  • Veggie stir fry with hot sauce
  • Salad with peppers, mushrooms and carrots
  • Salad with veggies and a side of baked red potato fries
  • Salad with hard boiled eggs and fresh veggies with a olive oil and balsamic dressing
  • Roasted potatoes and carrots with fried eggs and side salad

Meal Ideas with Additional Items:

  • Avocado toast with sunny side eggs on top
  • Fajitas with peppers, onions and mushrooms, on corn tortillas
  • Fajita bowl with peppers, onions, mushrooms, rice and black beans - add salsa, guacamole and hot sauce
  • Quinoa and beans with salsa and hot sauce - topped with a fried egg
  • Protein, side of peppers and potatoes
  • Fajita Nachos with black beans, fajita peppers, mushrooms, salsa and guacamole
