Lavender Essential Oil - My 5 Favorite Benefits

Oh Lavender, you make me feel so good. Like, sooooooo good.

Lavender hands down is one of my favorite essential oils, if not my favorite. I probably was introduced to lavender many moons ago in some kind of body lotion or during a massage, but I didn’t pay much attention to it. Now as I start to learn more about essential oils I have a special appreciation for lavender and use it on a daily basis.

So I’ll get right to the point: below are some of my favorite uses for doTERRA’s Lavender Essential Oil:

Itching/Bug Bites - Lavender is great for those pesky mosquito/insect bites that are itchy and annoying. I had a bunch of bites around my ankle that were itching so badly. I looked up which oils to use for bug bites and lavender came up. I immediately rubbed a few drops directly on them and felt instant relief.

How to use it: Place a drop or two directly on the area or add a couple drops to coconut oil or plan lotion and massage into skin.

Meditation - I incorporate different oils when I meditate and use lavender when I’m feeling really anxious or scattered. It helps calm my senses and recenter my thoughts.

How to use it: Take a drop or two in your hands, rub them together and cup them over your face. Inhale the aroma through your nose and exhale out any tension. Do this for a few breaths. Then rub the oil on the back of your neck and to your forehead and temples.

Sleep - Lavender is well known for its relaxing benefits, so it makes sense that it’s great for sleep. It’s a favorite for my husband and stepson too and has become a nice bedtime ritual.

How to use it: Add a few drops to a diffuser (number of drops depends on size of diffuser) and turn on as you start to go to bed. Apply 1-2 drops to bottom of feet, to the spine and back of neck - and don’t forget to cup your hands over your face to breathe in the aroma too.

Tea - The doTERRA lavender essential oil can be taken internally and is a nice compliment to your tea or other cooking creations, like brownies and cookies.

How to use it: When adding to your tea you only need 1 drop. Essential oils pack a punch so you don’t need much at all to get the flavor. Important to remember, not all oils are created equal. Always be sure your oil is safe to consume, some other producers might make lavender only for aromatic use. Check your labels before use.

Relaxation/Stress Relief - This is probably the most common reason people use lavender essential oil. When I feel like I need some peace in my day I take out lavender and breathe in the aroma, or I’ll add it to a bath, or massage it on my neck and shoulders. It helps soothe the nerves, relax the body and calm the mind.

How to use it: Take a warm bath with epsom salt, adding 5-10 drops lavender essential oil. Inhale its aroma directly from bottle. Place a couple drops in hands and cupping over face taking in the aroma, then rub onto neck.
